Matthew Lillard

Well known for his role as Shaggy in the live-action Scooby-doo movies Matthew Lillard has long made his place in many nerd fandoms. According to Lillard he’s been playing Dungeons and Dragons for over three decades now and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Nowadays Dungeons and Dragons is not only a hobby for him but also a profitable business. Along with four other founders he created Beadle and Grimms pandemonium warehouse which produces high-quality third-party material for Dungeons and Dragons.

Deborah Ann Woll

While many remember her as Karen Page in the daredevil Netflix show, Deborah Ann Woll is better known as one of the most well-known celebrity dungeon masters online. While most of DND’s activity was revealed during the pandemic it has become clear to anyone who has seen Woll talk about dungeons and Dragons that she is not only passionate but knowledgeable about everything that happens behind and in front of the dungeon master screen. Affiliated both with DND beyond relics and rarities the True Blood star managed to not only show that Dungeons and Dragons are for everyone, but it can also be done by everyone. Frequently making videos helping new DMS and potential players get accustomed to the rules and the universe that they would enter.

Vin Diesel

He is perhaps the most well-known celebrity who plays Dungeons and Dragons on the planet. An avid player for over three decades now diesel has managed to cement its name in popular culture true Bros such as Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Riddick in The Chronicles of Riddick. While most people know of him for his fast and furious franchise Vin Diesel’s love of tabletop role-playing games has always been public knowledge. One remarkable thing about Vin Diesel is that he is not only known by players but also by the industry and has been recognized for this. Being invited even to write the for words for the 30-year edition of the player handbook for Dungeons and Dragons. So, whether you know him as Groot, Dom, or even the Iron Giant there is no debating Vin diesels nerd cred especially when it comes to rolling dice on the table.

Matthew Mercer

Perhaps the most famous dungeon master around, founder of critical role, and one of the biggest voices in making Dungeons and Dragons a household name in the current popular zeitgeist. Matthew Mercer along with his party including his wife Marisha Ray I’ve done a lot to democratize and popularize Dungeons and Dragons. Between their partnership with DND beyond and the number of resources such as a printable character sheet for DND or homebrew erratum for rules of the game, their impact cannot be minimized. While Matthew Mercer is mostly known for his role voice acting in many animes or as the voice of Colt Cassidy in Overwatch, is not the only famous person on the critical role roster. You can also see Ashley Johnson of Last of Us fame and Laura Bailey mostly known for their role as Jaina Proudmoore in World of Warcraft.

Joe Manganiello

Here is another Trueblood alum on our list. To many Joe Manganiello is a real man’s man. He is to DND what Henry Cavil is to Warhammer 40K. A buff masculine nerd giving the hobby a great name. At this point, Manganiello is almost better known for his involvement in Dungeons and Dragons than he is for his roles in the Magic Mike franchise. Many times, during interviews he bragged about his impressive dungeons and Dragons room to which he dedicated his basement and to which he welcomed many celebrities at his table. Some of the most well-known players he welcomed are Matthew Lillard who we mentioned earlier, Stephen Colbert, Vin Diesel, and most surprising of all Robin Williams.
